New Website Launch

Blogon February 27th, 2010No Comments

I have just launched a redesign of the EPR Creations LLC website. I’ve been wanting to do this for quite some time. I am excited about this redesign because I am using many of the skills I have picked up in the last few years. I love that this design is simple, that it works on the iPhone, and that it is interactive.

This redesign allows for much interaction. I have opened up the testimonials page for current and previous clients to submit their thoughts on my work. I have also written about each of my designs so far, what I used to create the website, and what I learned in the process. The user can also comment on each of my website designs.

Another reason I am excited about this redesign is that I now have a blog set up within the website. I plan to blog periodically on items I have learned related to website design, search engine optimization, and online marketing.

I have come to deeply enjoy website design and development over the past few years of EPR Creations LLC. I enjoy working closely with my clients and advising them on the best strategy for their particular niche on the Internet.

Date Launched:
February 2010

Design / Development Notes:
WordPress, HTML, CSS

What I Learned:
I used WordPress as a content management system (CMS) and integrated the back end of the site with one of my designs. This was one of the first websites I integrated a CMS system with my own HTML, CSS, PHP design. This provides the client with the ability to make changes to the text and photos within the website.

One challenge for this website was to keep the code simple so that pages load fast. I used my own design for this reason. I know that most WordPress templates available for free or for purchase contain unnecessary code. To get around this challenge, I designed a simple template for faster load times.

Instead of using Flash for the banner, I utilized a Javascript rotation script so that the header would show up on mobile devices like the iPhone.

What I Learned:
By far the most comprehensive website I have designed so far. This site consists of an online school where students register and pay to have access to all lectures on the website. I had never done a website remotely close to this level, so nearly everything I did was for the first time. Amazing learning experience.

The blog uses the same template as the site but utilizes WordPress instead of Joomla, which is used for the site itself.

What I Learned:
I created this website to promote my violin playing in order to get wedding gigs. The first day I launched the site I got a gig offer. I used a template for this website and added to it. This was the first time I added audio tracks to a non-WordPress website. This is also the website I have advertised most extensively. I’ve learned a lot about how Google AdWords works through this process.

First Website – November 2007

Design / Development Notes:
HTML, CSS

What I Learned:
This is the website that started it all. Actually, this one is the new design, but click here for the old design. While completing my Master’s degree in International Business, I started this e-commerce site as a way to sell Peruvian products to clients in the USA. I sat down with a manual on how to create a website and started creating this website as quickly as I was learning how to design websites. Most of what I learned designing this website is what I have used in all subsequent websites.
